What Sybil is
What is Sybil?
Sybil is a cloud-based portfolio management platform for insurers. It turns your premium and claims data into one shared view where actuaries and underwriters can analyse performance, agree on actions and track the results over time.
What do you mean by “portfolio management” in insurance?
It’s a process where analytical insight guides human decisions, so you get more value from your existing portfolio. You find the segments that are underperforming, act on them, and review the results in a regular cycle.
How is Sybil different from a standard BI or reporting tool?
A BI dashboard shows what happened. Sybil goes further: it combines actuarial projections, underwriter exploration, scenario testing and an audit trail of decisions. It then measures actual results against expected ones, so you can see whether your actions worked.
Who it’s for
Who uses Sybil: actuaries, underwriters, or both?
Both. Actuaries use the Actuarial and Underwriting (a-priori) modules for technical analysis. Underwriters use the Main Dashboard to explore performance and identify actions. Everyone works from a single version of the truth.
What types of insurers and lines of business is Sybil suited to?
Sybil suits insurers and MGAs with policy-level premium and claims data. Every implementation is tailored to your portfolio’s structure.
Is Sybil only for large insurers, or does it work for smaller carriers and MGAs?
No. Sybil works for insurers and MGAs of all sizes. The platform is set up around your portfolio, however large or complex it is.
Do users need technical or coding skills?
No. Everything runs in the browser, and no coding is needed.
How it works
How does the Sybil portfolio management cycle work?
New data is loaded, and actuaries analyse it. Underwriters then explore the results and agree on actions. When the next round of data arrives, results are compared against expectations and refined, and the cycle repeats.
What are the main modules in Sybil?
Main Dashboard (performance, comparison and risk profile views); Underwriting Module (a-priori expectations); Actuarial Module (triangles and development patterns); Actual vs Expected; and the Action Log with audit trail.
What can actuaries do in the analysis modules?
Actuaries can set up claims triangles, review link ratios and development patterns, build a-priori loss ratio expectations, and save alternative scenarios to compare them.
What can underwriters do with the dashboard?
Underwriters can explore performance by segment and compare segments side by side. They can review the risk profile and find the parts of the book that need action.
What is the Action Log, and how do actions feed into future performance?
The Action Log records every decision and change, giving you a full audit trail. As new data comes in, the Actual vs Expected view shows how those actions are playing out.
How often is the data refreshed?
Usually monthly or quarterly, agreed with each client.
How does Sybil measure whether the actions we take are working?
Through Actual vs Expected. Each data refresh compares emerging premiums and claims against what was projected, so you can see what’s on track and what needs revisiting.
Data and technology
What data does Sybil need from us?
Policy-level premium and claims data, plus some context: your portfolio structure, large-loss definitions, rate change history and IBNR approach. Sybil doesn’t need personal data.
How is data transferred to Sybil?
Data is transferred over encrypted connections, and no cleartext protocols are used. Our team cleans and loads it into a repeatable pipeline, so every refresh is consistent.
Does Sybil integrate with our existing systems?
Sybil works with data extracts in any format, such as CSVs or database exports, so you don’t need to replace or change your systems.
Is Sybil cloud-based? Do we need to install anything?
Yes, Sybil is Software-as-a-Service accessed through your browser. There’s nothing to install.
What if our data isn’t perfect?
Few insurers have perfect data. We handle cleansing and consolidation during onboarding and flag any quality issues early.
Security
How is our data secured?
Data is encrypted at rest and in transit, and HTTPS is enforced on every connection. Login uses SSO (Microsoft Entra ID or Google Workspace) with multi-factor authentication. Backups are regular and tested. Our infrastructure providers hold independent certifications, including SOC 2 and ISO 27001.
Who can access our data?
Only your authorised users. Every data request is checked server-side against an explicit permission record for your organisation, and any request without one is rejected. Each client’s data is kept fully separate.
Can we control user permissions within our team?
Yes. Access is permission-based, and session timeouts can be configured for your organisation.
Getting started
How long does implementation take?
Typically weeks, not months, depending mainly on data readiness.
What does onboarding involve?
We work with your experts to understand your portfolio: its structure, large-loss definitions, rate history and IBNR approach. We then clean and load your data, set up the platform and hand over login access.
What training do you provide?
We provide a full user manual and a portfolio management eBook.
Can we see a demo or run a trial?
Yes. You can book a demo, or run a six-month paid pilot with full access to Sybil using your own data.
How much of our team’s time will setup require?
Most of the effort comes early on, when our team works with your experts on data and requirements. We handle the data cleansing and loading.
Licensing and support
How is Sybil licensed and priced?
Sybil is licensed on an annual subscription. Contact us for a quote.
Is there a minimum contract term?
Contracts run for one to three years. You can cancel without giving a reason on 90 days’ notice.
What support is included?
Every client gets support from our in-house tech team by email at info@sybil.cloud.
How often is Sybil updated, and do we get new features automatically?
Sybil is under active development. Because it’s cloud-based, all clients get updates automatically.
Can we request features or customisations?
Yes. Client feedback shapes our roadmap, and each implementation is already tailored to your portfolio.
Who are your current clients? Can we speak to a reference?
We’re happy to arrange reference conversations on request.
